Liv’s PhD research focused on the role of emotions and of hope in two contemporary peace movements in Israel, Women Wage Peace and Standing Together (Conflict Resolution / Ben Gurion University, 2018-22). She investigated the meaning of hope for Israeli peace activists and looked at how both movements work on their activists’ emotions, arguing that collective hope-based action might be powerful in all contexts of protracted conflicts.

Liv’s current research looks at how peace movements combine different emotions, including hope, as well as at how women peace activists relate to the ‘Women and Peace Hypothesis’ and to the question of the origin of women’s power.

Liv is also the Director of research and policy at the ECF think tank that shapes policies aiming at advancing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, and is a member of the Swiss Women in Peace Processes network. She previously worked for the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Committee of the Red Cross and various NGOs in Peru, Mozambique, Angola, Haiti, Colombia, Israel/Palestine, the USA and Switzerland. She also holds a B.A. and M.A. in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies (Geneva/Switzerland) as well as a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Boston/USA).

Liv lives in Tel Aviv and is the mother of two kids aged 5 and 7.
